About Janelle Stelk

I started out as a horse crazy toddler as I acquired my first horse at age 4. My unhorsey parents purchased me a 2yr old. I prevailed and as a young teenager started colts for money even pursuing my passion as work study during highschool. I continued by occupation through young adulthood and then as a side for many years. I’m currently back full time starting colts and young children as well, specializing in my Beginner Horsemanship Courses. I have served as board member and president of the Nebraska Appaloosa Club, board of State 4-H Horse Council, 27 years as a horse 4-H leader, Registered Instructor with NHARA, and coach of Transitions vaulting team.

My husband, Dennis and I own and operate The Hilltop Mini Ranch located at 260 W Hwy 34, Phillips. The Mini Ranch is home to Nebraska Equine Assisted Therapy, a Therapeutic horseback riding facility for individuals with special needs. The program’s goal is to provide a unique blend of social, physical and emotional development through horseback riding.

The Hilltop also offers lessons to able-bodied students of all ages. It is home to The Transitions vaulting team, formed in 1997. VAULTING is gymnastics on horseback. Team members perform exercises atop the moving horse choreographed to music. The team has performed for various functions throughout the state.

The Pony Express 4-H club also originated at the Hilltop, forming in 1978 providing area youth with equine knowledge and opportunity.

Janelle Stelk is the 2007 DIANA Award Recipient. Read more here...
